the Journey
I returned to The Bronx in 2015. Soon there after I became a sales associate at Artist & Craftsman Harlem. My job provided me the opportunity to explore mediums and extend my vocabulary.. My coworkers and I took to thinking of this experience as an Art school of sorts, providing the time and the space to develop our creative processes. The following is a sample of ideas, pieces that allowed to discover my own process.
“Perspective”
24x36 Acrylic,
oil & Acryla guache
cotton. 2015
The third in a set of portraits, looking to depict women of color, using the beautiful yet harsh and reflective appearance of the earth metal imitations, copper and gold.. The soft nature of our complexion is enhanced by the connections we share with nature itself.
Movement is required to fully experience this expression. The subtle snarl increases when seen from new vantage points.
“Two worlds and a funeral”
36X36 ACrylic and ink
on COTTON
2015
Here I discovered my love of the incomplete figure, of negative space, the freedom of movement and the power of impulse.
I hope this reminds my comrades of a family living room. A staple trilogy in the households of many the American tribe of displaced persons.
“over it”
Acrylic on canvas
12x24
2014
The only canvas I brought home to The Bronx, when we burried my Grandfather, 2014. I knew I would need some way of occupying my time. Heavy emotional stress and family gatherings don’t work well for me. I found a safe place to hide, here in this work. I moved back to New York shortly after.
